Ireland wins avast! 1 in 100 million match with France

Ireland edged out France in a tight contest to win the avast! 100 millionth user celebration. Was it the luck of the Irish? Or was it divine retribution for the “Hand of God II”, French striker Thierry Henry’s hand ball which set up France for play-off victory and ended Irish hopes for a place in the 2010 World Cup finals? We don’t know. But, we do know that avast! got its 100 millionth registered user this December 8th. With the clock just about to hit 11:00 Central European Time, one lucky Irishman kicked his registration into the avast! database just seconds ahead of a Frenchman to win the prize - an expenses-paid trip for two to Prague, home of avast! antivirus software.

avast! was awarded the highest “advanced+” rating from AV-Comparatives in its test of 16 antivirus programs’ ability to proactively detect viruses and malware without a fresh virus update.

avast! is the new top antivirus choice in the CNET Security Starter Kit 2010. The Kit is the annual list of recommended security freeware from the editors of CNET, the world’s most popular technology review and download site.

Avast tops AV Comparatives test

Avast topped the latest AV Comparatives analysis of antivirus programs with a mix of speed and accuracy. Avast had the fastest scan time of the 16 tested programs. We are moving

Prague, Czech Republic – ALWIL Software is moving to new offices. Monday, September 14th was the first day for staff to work in the new space. We are now in the process of moving our computing infrastructure to the new location. Our system for delivering virus updates is located elsewhere and is not impacted by the move. Telephone numbers remain unchanged, but there could be sporadic outages of phone and internet connectivity so please bear with us. We expect the move to be completed by end week.
